Forward, don’t forget: the earth, “the great nourisher”! The Brecht Days 2026 – co-curated by Alexander Karschnia – revolve around Brecht’s “green revolution.” Starting from his writings on agriculture, technology, and society, films, discussions, lectures, talks, and readings draw connections to the present: the climate crisis, industrial food production, and new eco-socialist perspectives.

Dear colleagues, friends, allies,
We are collaborating with Theater Thikwa on „Wir Krisendarsteller*innen: Lookalike in anger!“ (We Crisis Actors) and invite you to join a video choir of the independent scene, which will be shown on screen at HAU 1 – Hebbel am Ufer Berlin.
It is about a kind of appropriation of a political battle term that authoritarian actors use to discredit their opponents.

Three years ago, THE MANY were founded. Hundreds of activists from the independent arts scene paraded through the streets in Berlin with shiny golden flags to demonstrate against a far-right march: “UNITE&SHINE” happenings against hatred, alongside actions and discussions within the cultural scene, led to 35 regional Declarations of THE MANY in 2018. Almost all theatres and cultural institutions in the city signed the “Berlin Declaration of THE MANY”. Meanwhile, more than 4000 art and cultural institutions in over 50 cities in Germany and Austria have formed THE MANY, displaying a joint commitment against the “culture war from the right” and campaigning for an open and diverse society. On 8 and 9 May 2020, days of shining action took place to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the war and Europe’s liberation from the fascism of National Socialism, as well as the 70th birthday of the European Union. Together with Auschwitz survivor Esther Bejarano, THE MANY demand that 8 May be made a public holiday. They also renew their call for an open Europe. On the occasion of the movement’s third birthday, THE MANY will be holding a discussion at HAU Hebbel am Ufer. In an opening statement, Philine Rinnert and Holger Bergmann, co-founders and chairpeople of THE MANY (DIE VIELEN e.V.), tackle the question of “what to do?” in the current situation. After all, in the current pandemic, social injustices and global human rights violations are magnified. What do slogans like “solidarity instead of privileges” and “art remains free!” mean in such a situation? What can we do about the rapid spread of the conspiracy theory virus? How can we take care of ourselves? These and other questions will be discussed by activists and supporters of THE MANY on 17 June at #HAUonline. With Amelie Deuflhard, Annemie Vanackere, Fanni Halmburger (She She Pop), Carina Book, and Carsten Brosda amongst others in dialogues with Alexander Karschnia (andcompany&Co.). Afterwards Priya Basil, Margarita Tsomou and Max Czollek will discuss the old new question: What to do?!

Theatertreffen presents: On Sunday, 12.05. at HAU1 Berlin. Matt Cornish, professor of theatre history at Ohio University, has collected texts in his book by four collectives that have been producing works in collaboration with HAU Hebbel am Ufer for many years. There are texts from plays, stage directions and other scenarios by andcompany&Co., Gob Squad, Rimini Protokoll, She She Pop and Showcase Beat Le Mot. The texts invite the reader to adapt the ideas and rules stated there to make their own entirely new productions.

We demonstrate on June 17. If this new generation of neo-Nazis, called the identity movement, aims to claim the memory of June 17, 1953, to present their crude selfperception as an act of resistance, then we resist and speak up for a society that is not isolating itself.
Berlin’s independent performing arts community invites you to more than 120 productions at over 60 locations all over Berlin! andcompany&Co. will show the smugglers Opera and 2045: Müller in Metropolis at HAU1. Further info to at PAF

Profitable Aesthetics. Performative Strategies of Involvement
On Oct. 21st/22nd 2016 the third annual conference of the ERC project ‘The Aesthetics of Applied Theatre’ will be held at Akademie der Künste, Berlin. The conference aims to explore the eco-nomic aspects of the arts, aspects that cannot be reduced to strategies of commercialisation, nor to the monetary reward of artistic work. In general, it is about the ambivalence of ‘give-and-take’ in the realm of aesthetics. Alexander Karschnia will talk about andco's current work NOT MY REVOLUTION, IF…: THE STORIES OF ANGIE O.
