“A Saxon Elizabethan” – an article by Alexander Karschnia for the 90th birthday of B. K. Tragelehn

14.04.2026

B. K. Tragelehn has turned 90!
In the current issue of Theater der Zeit, Alexander Karschnia congratulates the “Saxon Elizabethan.

When Brecht died, Tragelehn was 20 years old. Now Brecht has been dead for 70 years and Tragelehn celebrates his 90th birthday. Those who wonder what to do with Brecht today, as his work—at least in part—enters the public domain, can learn a great deal from his student. He likes to recall that, for Brecht, theatre required “no other passport” than “pleasure—though this, absolutely.”

Happy Birthday, dear B.K.!
